one month after...
... and i'm usual my cynical self.
i am currently taking a much needed break from studies right now... heck, who am i kidding... actually, my body gave up on me and decided to do a protest by giving me stomach virus (i think) so i can relax even for a day. hence, i now find myself staying home, skipping class, work, and an exam (which the prof said i can make up, thankfully)... and enough time to post a much needed blog entry!
so what does CH have to say this time? while CH was stuck in bed all day, she found time to peruse the web and yahoogroups and then found herself staring at updated alumni pictures of her old alma mater. CH is now mockingly laughing at her highschool 'grand reunion'. wait, make that, she is laughing at her HIGHSCHOOL. CH wants to say that she has very fond memories of her school, but sadly that is not the case. this is marred by the fact that she was hoping that she could get a lot more awards in her graduation, but found she had to desperately fight for only one (she ended up getting two, tho).
to note, it is not that CH is bitter (ok, a little bitter), but that at the last frickin' moment, she finally realized what highschool is really about - sucking up to teachers, school administrators and nuns. yes, nuns. explain to CH how she can get only an honorable mention, because she has one B- but a really good overall average, when another person gets a first-medal recognition, even though she has a C subject? explain to CH how there should be only one valedictorian, but through some serious grade tweaking, end up with 2 more others, because the teachers bump up the extra-curricular grades of these 2 persons to an A. explain to CH why she had to fight for her only other award, and end up being verbally lambasted by her math prof for 'usurping teacher's opinion'.
ok, so they all happened nearing culmination of her highschool stay, which marred the other good memories CH had of her highschool (CH can only count those involving her barkada and other friends tho).
but there are other rants as well.
for reasons unknown, they let go their only and most awesome, brave, fresh, bold, english teacher (and highschool alumni. CH suspects jealous co-teachers were behind this conspiracy). rising tuition costs, which may be the case of every private school, but it is especially ironic when you see a nun sport a diamond-studded gold watch (and you think they were supposed to be practicing vows of simplicity). those compulsary tickets for some lame fundraiser. those hype up comments about how great the school is, but when you get to college, all the people say "you came from ____? what's that?". and the degrading value of their education standard. the students being churned out now are not the same quality as they were years before. that is because the school has given into the allure of money, that's why. getting more students in - thereby increasing teacher-student ratio and lessening student interaction, care for student's improvement and personal welfare -.. aah, CH can go on and on... and how about her sister, then about to graduate from elementary and who is definitely more gifted than CH, yet ends up getting short-changed as well? (aaah, so we are definitely of the same family, it is not in our nature to suck up. i am soooo glad she went to another school).
there is so much more...... aaah, as much as CH wants to 'fess up, she knows she will only tire herself out....
so there. CH is laughing at her school. and probably at the futility of the good intentions of its alumni association. yet for all her cynism, she wishes the school and fellow alumni the best. its current students aren't to blame and should not suffer the same.
