hit and miss

what a surreal day. and the story i am about to tell will have nothing to do with studies, mind you.

i was at the bus stop nonchalantly talking with two of my friends. out of the corner of my eye, i noticed this nice looking guy looking at us (of course, i assumed he was looking at me, too). looks shy judging by his smile, but with a kinda intense gaze.

ah what the hell, you know. i'd never thought i'd get to know him personally, so i just chatted away. on the bus, when my friends went to their respective stops (leaving me alone), i again caught the guy looking. hmm... must be my imagination.

i get off my first stop and began walking to the next bus stop to catch my next ride. i somehow sensed that he got off as well and was walking behind me. still, i brushed it off, taking it as a coincidence that he might just have the destination as mine. all of a sudden, he is right beside, and matching my pace. i thought i'd slow it a bit, thinking he wanted to go ahead, but noooo, he was still beside me.

there was no mistaking about it; he WAS looking at me then, and perhaps wanted to talk. my heart began beating faster. (also thought about my promise to God that i am supposed to wait for the right one)

so while walking, i turn to him and say if he's going to the station as i am. he says yes. we reached our stop, but being that it was a new building, i took my time to take a look around. SO DID HE. i walk inside the office, and he follows. he begins asking what bus i am taking, i reply and in turn ask about his. i leave him for a while to buy my ticket, but then i notice he is waiting for me. oh my.

(now that i think about it, he must have ridden the bus the day before, therefore he should've known about the new bus station already.. hmmmm).

all this suspense was really building up inside me. i had to think fast if i was just going to leave him, or take the chance of knowing. sigh. so just short of holding the bull by its horns, i plunge in and ask (casually, i hoped) his name. he asks mine. we shake hands. then we head off to the shed to wait for our buses.

but wait. he stays in my shed, when HIS shed is a few meters away. the suspense is gone, replaced by a curiousity of how this encounter would turn out.

what happened next? it was a blur, to be honest. i attempted to keep the conversation going, so in the end, each of us got a lot of info from each other - our courses, our class schedules, our subjects, where we came from (kulang na lang, maghingian na lang kami ng number!). kinda awkward for me, but amusing nevertheless. i couldn't look at him straight, honestly because he WAS good-looking. he had somewhat curly hair, nice smooth face, semi-pointed chin. i also had the distinct impression that this guy was the torpe kind. ay, but the eyes. i thought i saw a glimmer of green and brown. wow..

he finally leaves for his shed because his bus arrives earlier than mine. i wave goodbye, and stay in my seat. kinda happy i got to meet a new friend and how well it all turned out. at one point, i turn around to check if my bus has arrived, and accidentally glance at his shed (really, accidentally). oh my. i notice he is STILL looking. aaaaah! in a semi-state of panic, or just the need to do something, ANYTHING, i pretend i left something and go inside the office. when i went back out, i saw he went inside his bus. phew.

i dunno if i was carried away by our conversations, or by him, or by the new bus stations, but later on, i found out that i took the wrong bus stop (!!) and had to wait for an additional 30min to get into the right one. there was some euphoria involved, i guess, and suddenly images of future meetings swirled in my head.

but by the time i got to my bus (finally), i was hit by the notion that this guy was younger than me. WAY younger than me. i recalled that he just got off highschool, and this was his first semester. WHICH MAKES HIM 18 (or so).

drat.

i'll guess i'll just have to look forward to having just a new acquaintance then.
